Work Permit, Permanent Residence Permits and Citizenship in Hungary

Work Permit

  5. Anyone who is not a citizen of the EU needs a combined residence and work permit in order to stay and work in Hungary. To start working for a Hungarian company, any employee needs to be integrated in the Hungarian social security and taxation system. The work permit will be valid for 2 years, after which it can be easily renewed if the employment relationship still exists.

Permanent Residence Permits

A Temporary Resident can apply for permanent residency after 3 years of continuous living in the country. For residence to be counted as continuous, holders of a residence permit can’t leave Hungary for more than 4 months in a row or more than 270 days in total.

People

Climate

Hungary has four different seasons. Whilst summers are warm, winters can be really cold; average temperatures range from -4 °C in January to 26 °C in July.

The sun in Hungary is quite rarely seen in winter, while in the summer, it shines quite often. On average, there are nearly 2,000 hours of sunshine per year in the north and nearly 2,200 hours in the south. In winter, from December to February, gray skies, mists and fogs are frequent. Snowfalls are quite frequent, though not abundant.
