Canada Business Immigration Program Categories
There are four main categories in which applicants can apply for a business visa. These
categories are:
- Start-Up / Investor
- Self-Employed
- Business PNP
Start-Up / Investor
If you are an entrepreneur with an innovative business idea, you may be eligible to immigrate to Canada through the start-up visa program.
Canada is looking for talented entrepreneurs that are interested in starting businesses that will stimulate the Canadian economy while creating employment opportunities for its residents.
Canada’s start-up visa program gives entrepreneurs the opportunity to immigrate to Canada in order to establish a new business. Immigrant entrepreneurs must demonstrate that their business is innovative, will create new jobs for Canadians, and can compete on a global scale.
Self – Employed
The self-employed program allows for people to immigrate to Canada on a permanent basis as a self-employed person.
To apply for this program, an individual must:
- have relevant experience in cultural activities or athletics and
- be willing and able to make a significant contribution to the cultural or athletic life of Canada
Eligibility to apply for Self-Employed Visa
To immigrate as a self-employed person, you must:
- have relevant experience
- be willing and able to be self-employed in Canada
- meet the program’s selection criteria and
- meet medical, security and other conditions

To be eligible your maximum score should be 100. The pass mark is currently 35 points which is subject to change.

Business PNP Visa Program
The Canadian Provincial Nominee Program for Businessmen has been modeled to allow and encourage investors and businessmen to reside in Canadian provinces and make investments.
Every province has its own specific quota of admitting skilled workers in their province. Through the Canadian Provincial Nominee Program, immigrants can choose the province they want to set up their business in.

BC PNP—Entrepreneur Immigration
The Entrepreneur Immigration program of BC PNP is for experienced entrepreneurs looking to immigrate and settle in British Columbia, Canada.
- Regional Pilot
Through the Regional Pilot program, the province of British Columbia offers a pathway to immigrants who are looking to start a new business in the small communities of B.C.
Each community has identified and prioritized the businesses for their communities. Mentioned below are the different communities and their businesses.
- Requirements for EI – Regional Pilot Program
The EI – Regional Pilot Program was introduced for international entrepreneurs who are interested to start their business in smaller communities.
Following are the program criteria to qualify for the program. You must:
- establish an eligible new business aligned with the priorities of the referring community
- show business and/or management experience
- have a personal net worth of at least CAD$300,000
- make an eligible personal investment of at least CAD$100,000 in the business
- create at least one new full-time job for a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
- demonstrate a minimum language proficiency of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 4
- have, or be eligible for, legal immigration status in Canada
- have been lawfully admitted in the country where you currently live
The Manitoba Investor Stream which was formerly known as Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program for Business, has been designed mainly for business owners and entrepreneurs who are looking to start and establish a business in Manitoba or establish a farm.
There are three pathways to the Business Investor Stream for Manitoba:
- The Entrepreneur Pathway for applicants seeking to open a business in Manitoba; and
- The Farm Investor Pathway for those intending to establish and operate a farm operation in rural Manitoba.
- The Skilled Workers Overseas stream for applicants who prove an established connection to Manitoba
The province of New Brunswick offers immigration programs by nominating individuals with the ability to become economically established in the province.
New Brunswick has two pathways:
- New Brunswick Skilled Worker Stream
- New Brunswick Business Immigration stream
For those prospective immigrants who acquire the skills and experience that are required by the province of Nova Scotia, may be nominated to immigrate.
Nova Scotia Provincial Nominee Program streams are:
- Entrepreneur
- Skilled Worker
The processing time for eligible applications can be three (3) months or more.
Within six (6) months of receiving your nominee certificate, apply to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada for your permanent resident visa. You, your spouse and your dependents must meet all requirements for medical, security and criminal admissibility. In some cases, you may be asked to go for an interview. CIC has the final authority to issue a permanent resident visa.

The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) is the province’s economic immigration program. It works in partnership with the Government of Canada through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
The OINP recognizes and nominates people for permanent residence who have the skills and experience the Ontario economy needs, and the Government of Canada makes the final decision to approve applications for permanent residence.
The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) has the following streams:
- Human Capital Priorities Stream
- Skilled Trades Stream

How to Apply to the SINP
The Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) is a way to immigrate to Canada. Through the SINP, the Province of Saskatchewan:
- Invites residency applications from non-Canadians who want to make Saskatchewan their home
- Nominates successful applicants to the federal government for permanent residency in Canada
The SINP is only one of the steps toward becoming a permanent resident in Saskatchewan. All approved applicants must also apply for residency through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) Canadian Immigration Commission.
Who is not eligible to apply?
The following cannot apply:
- Refugee claimants in Canada who are claiming refugee status from the Government of Canada.
- Anyone living illegally in their country of residence or in Canada.
- Anyone who has had a removal order issued against them by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) or Canada Border Services Agency.
- Those who are prohibited from entering Canada.
You may not be eligible for immigration to Canada if:
- You or any dependent family member do not meet IRCC’s requirements related to health and criminality (even if your dependent is not included in your immigration application).
- You have unresolved custody or child support disputes affecting any member of your family.
- You and/or your representative were not truthful in the application.
- You were unable to prove that you intend to live and work in Saskatchewan.
Temporary Work Permit for International Skilled Worker
If your application is approved by the SINP, your nomination will be sent to IRCC, and you will be provided with a letter of support for a Temporary Work Permit. If the permit is approved by IRCC, you’ll be able to start or continue working while your Permanent Resident Visa is being processed.
